1955 - First expansion work

Starting in the mid-1950s, Japan entered a period of record economic growth. In 1955, the population in Hiroshima City reached 375,000. To keep up with the development of the region, Fukuya also began its first expansion work in October of the same year. As Fukuya stayed open for business, the work was difficult, but this began a period of dramatic development for Fukuya as well, continuing until the fourth expansion work in 1975.

Around 1956 - Rooftop bustling with families for the "Children's Paradise"

A characteristic of bustling department stores during this period was the rooftop amusement park. Called the "Children's Paradise", the Fukuya rooftop had various kinds of playground equipment and was bustling with many families. After playing on the rooftop, children would enjoy a "children's lunch" in the restaurant. This was a typical way to enjoy department stores.

1959 - 30th founding anniversary

In October 1959, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding, Fukuya set up decorations and held anniversary sales, and was filled with a celebratory mood. In part due to the social prosperity from the so-called "Iwato Boom" which began this year, the store was bustling with customers.
